Privacy Policy

Social Purpose Works (SPW) is a program of Portland Area nonprofit Metropolitan Family Service (MFS).  SPW provides a service to match Pro Bono Professionals to critical capacity projects of local nonprofits (the “Service”).  MFS has engaged HandsOn Connect (HOC) to provide the technology platform to support the Service.  This document contains the privacy policy for Metropolitan Family Service and the privacy policy for HandsOn Connect, and governs the privacy for users of the Service (hereafter collectively referred to as the “Privacy Policy”).

All Users must agree to the Site terms of use, the SPW Service agreement, and the Privacy Policy before utilizing the Service.

Metropolitan Family Service Privacy Policy

User:  Any person or organization who has registered with the Social Purpose Works website (the “Site”).
Public:  Any person who accesses the Site
Pro Bono Professional:  A User who is looking to volunteer their professional skills
Nonprofit organization:  A User who represents a nonprofit and may be seeking resources to complete a project.

SCOPE OF PRIVACY POLICY
The privacy policy applies to all information provided by Users of the Social Purpose Works Service and Site.  If a User submits information directly to a third party through the use of our website or service, MFS is not responsible for the information collected by those third parties.

WHAT INFORMATION IS COLLECTED?
MFS collects information from both nonprofit organizations and Pro Bono Professionals (professional volunteers) to enable matching of talents and skills to project needs. Data collected varies by type of User, but may include: contact information, demographics, email address, project descriptions, organization descriptions, previous employment history, references, project preferences.   Each user has access to their account profile and can update or modify their information.  Users are responsible to safeguard their login and password. 

Non-personal data (data such as IP address, cookies, etc.) is also collected by the Site and covered in the HOC privacy policy.

HOW IS THE INFORMATION USED AND SHARED?
MFS utilizes the information provided by Users to provide our matching service. 
Nonprofit Organizations:  Basic organizational information and project descriptions which have been submitted to the Service will be publically displayed on the Site, and may also be publically posted in other venues during the recruitment period.   Without consent, MFS will not sell, rent, or otherwise share your personal data with other third parties unless required as described in the Other section below.
Pro Bono Professionals:  Personal information is not displayed to the public.  MFS employees or contractors managing the SPW program access information for the purpose of connecting Pro Bono Professionals with appropriate nonprofit capacity projects.   Without consent, MFS will not sell, rent, or otherwise share your personal data with other third parties unless required as described in the Other section below.   If a Pro Bono Professional “expresses interest” on the Site to a specific nonprofit project, he/she is consenting to allow SPW to share their personal data with that nonprofit for the purposes of a potential match.  Based on the information provided to the Service, Pro Bono Professionals consent to reference checks to validate employment or skills.  Pro Bono Professionals will also be required to pass a background check (administered by a third party) as a condition to interview for a project.

DATA RETENTION
MFS retains information submitted through registration or project creation in our database so Users can return to the Site, login and use the Service.  All Users can update their profile information by logging into their accounts.  If a User would like to remove their account and information from SPW, simply send an email to spw@socialpurpose.works and request the account termination, using the email account on file with SPW.  

OTHER
MFS makes every reasonable effort to maintain and preserve the privacy of our Users, but we reserve the right to disclose your personal information if required by law, or if we believe such action is needed to enforce the Privacy Policy or Terms of Use/Service Agreement or comply with a legal process.  User hereby authorizes and consents to MFS’s retention and reasonable use of information and content the User contributes to the Site or Services for the purposes of fulfilling its obligations under any agreement between the parties, for internal or external evaluation to improve the Site or Services, and for any other reasonable use contemplated by this Privacy Policy. User hereby authorizes MFS to provide MFS affiliates with reasonable access to User information for the same or similar uses as previously stated.

HANDSON CONNECT COOKIE POLICY:
This site uses cookies – small text files that are placed on your machine to help the site provide a better user experience. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If we change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on the Site so that users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we will disclose it. Any such posted changes will be effective upon posting. Your continued access to and/or use of the Site or Service constitutes your assent to, and acceptance of, this policy, including all posted changes.
